List of all American Car Brands

American car manufacturers have produced some of the most outstanding cars in history. There are five outstanding American car brands that are still making outstanding cars. These cars include Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge, GM and Chrysler. They all had great cars of yesteryear and are still producing sensational cars today.

One of the early cars worthy of mention is the Oldsmobile dominating the market at the turn of the 20th century. The Oldsmobile was produced on a large scale production line in Detroit Michigan. The Oldsmobile had financial difficulties early. It was soon purchased by General Motors. The Oldsmobile was known for its curved dash. The Curved Dash was mass produced and was the first automobile to be assembled on an assembly line. This invention was wrongly credited to Henry Ford. The company had an unfortunate fire that destroyed several models ready for production. One Curved Dash car was saved by workers. The Oldsmobile became known for its graceful lines and curves.

Early in the 20th century the Ford Motor Company was launched. The most notable car for the Ford Motor Company was the Model T Ford. In its first year they sold over 10,000 models. By 1912, the electric starter was introduced which did away with the hand crank system. This was an amazing accomplishment.

By 1913, the Ford Motor Company developed an assembly line process in which each worker was responsible for one particular task. This allowed the Ford Motor Company to increase production from 10,000 to 300,000 in one year. This also dropped the price of the Model T making this model the most affordable for the middle class Americans. Henry Ford has been given credit for inventing the first American automobile, which is not entirely true, but he has been credited with inventing the assembly line for mass production.

The American car makers are struggling to survive as they have for some time. They have always treated their employees very well. If the American car makers go out of business, it will affect many other industries as well. Americans feel that the American car companies need to compete with foreign auto makers in making cars more fuel efficient. Many Americans have remained loyal to the American automakers. American made cars are made to last. It is important to support American car makers and drive a reliable car.
